TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - A young man pretending to be a Garuda Indonesia pilot, Alvin Aditya, has been named a suspect for document forgery. He was caught wearing the airline's uniform and other pilot attributes, including a fake pilot ID card.

Comr. James Hutajulu, the crime division chief of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, said that Alvin was charged with article 263 of the Criminal Code for document forgery.

Alvin Aditya, a university student, was arrested when trying to pass security check at Soekarno-Hatta International terminal, Friday last week. Before the arrest, Alvin had been roaming the airport's terminal 3 wearing a pilot uniform with Garuda Indonesia attributes.

He was spotted by Capt. Andregema, an actual Garuda pilot, who found Alvin's behavior odd. His suspicion grew after noticing that the pants, shoes and bag Alvin was wearing did not match Garuda's standards.

Andregema and the aviation security officers then examined Alvin, and discovered he was wearing a fake Garuda Pilot ID card. He was then handed over to the police.

Garuda Indonesia's Vice President of Corporate Secretary Ikhsan Rosan said the company decided to bring the case to the police because what Alvin did blemished the airline's image. Garuda also wants to make an example out of the case so that no one else would try to do the same.
