TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The exhibition of Indonesia Classic N Unique Bus will be held at Hall B of JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta on March 20-22, 2019.

The show dubbed ‘Legend of Indonesian Transportation’ will display the history of the country’s transportation, starting from city transport such as bemo (three-wheeled vehicle), taxi, and bus up to village transport such as minibus or locally known as colt or kol.

“From 1970 to 1990, people living in rural areas were familiar with minibus or known as Kol, while regular transportation in urban areas in 1950-1960 is bemo and oplet (minivan),” said the coordinator of 2019 Indonesia Classic N Unique Bus, A. M. Fikri, in written a statement today, March 19.

According to Fikri, the exhibition, that was established since 2017, aimed at educating people about public transportation through past history, besides displaying various old, ancient transports. The event was part of public education and an effort to preserve the history of Indonesian transportation.

The theme was chosen considering the 2019 Busworld South East Asia was first opened adjacent to the exhibition.

Fikri explained that Busworld South East Asia would feature discussion sessions held by Busworld Academy with the focus on the future trend and system of transportations. Meanwhile, Indonesia Classic N Unique Bus showed the history of the country’s public transportation, and that Indonesians had familiarized with public transportation since ages ago.

“The public tends to complain about traffic congestion but they overlook public transportation. It is ironic that Indonesia had constructed the public transportation system in 1960. People in several developed countries commonly use public transportation, and so we should build such a culture,” Fikri concluded.
