Blok A Market Fire Spread to MRT Jakarta Substation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The fire that broke out in Blok A Market located on Jalan Panglima Polim, Melawai, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, was spreading to the main substation of MRT Jakarta. The fire occurred on early Wednesday, March 6, 2019, and destroyed hundreds of market stores.
MRT Jakarta corporate secretary Muhamad Kamaludin explained that the fire hit the area adjacent to MRT Receiving Substation facility. However, the incident did not cause major damage.
"The fire did not have a major impact to the infrastructure of MRT Jakarta, but only minor damage on the guardrail of the substation," said Kamaludin on Wednesday afternoon, March 6, 2019.
After the fire had successfully extinguished at 06:47 p.m. local times, the MRT team started to repair the damage. The substation building and equipment were safe and could normally operate.
"This incident will not affect the substation operation and MRT Jakarta planning operation," Kamaludin said.
He further clarified that the elevated station of Blok A was not affected and ready to operate. As earlier reports suggested, MRT Jakarta would start the free trial run for the public on March 12, 2019.
