TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Democrat Party politician who recently resigned from his party position, Andi Arief, argued that he was not a criminal. Andi made the statement following his recent arrest by the police on Sunday, March 3 in a Hotel in West Jakarta for allegedly consuming crystal meth. Andi was tested positive for the illicit drug.
"I am not a criminal," Andi told reporters who waited for him at the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) office in East Jakarta on Wednesday, March 6, 2019.
Andi refused to give further comments regarding his case, saying that he was ready to undergo rehabilitation. "Alhamdulillah, [I'm] ready," Andi said.
Andi Arief'slegal attorney Dedi Yahya, explained that his client would undergo a medical check-up to determine the rehabilitation period. Earlier reports suggested that the drug addiction level of Andi Arief was low.
Andi Arief visited BNN after the police released him on Tuesday night, Marhc 5, 2019. He was earlier examined by the police for three days after the arrest.
