TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice Presidential candidate Sandiaga Uno promises to reevaluate the country’s tax policies across numerous sectors that he claims have burdened Indonesians. With one of it being the tax on books.
He expressed this after accommodating the inputs and complaints from members of the Indonesian Publishers Association (Ikapi) during his visit to the Islamic Book fair (IBF) 2019 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Sunday, March 3.

“We received a number of inputs from members of the public and stakeholders. We will attempt to erase the tax on books, which I am dearly committed to,” said Prabowo Subianto’s running-mate.
He argues that there are too many taxes imposed across the publishing industry starting from paper tax, printing, royalty, distribution, up to the tax as soon as it ends up on the hands of its readers. He claims that this also contributes to the low reading interest among Indonesians.
“How could we excel if there are many burdens to bear. The consumers are affected following increasing prices [of books],” said Sandiaga Uno.
