Anies Baswedan: Meikarta Project Affects Jakarta Water Quality

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has expressed concern about the quality of water from Citarum River, West Java, that could be affected by the Meikarta project. According to Anies, the property project in Cikarang had the potential to stymie the water supply from Citarum River to Jatiluhur Reservoir.
“This will be a concern for the Jakarta provincial administration because there is a huge property project planned there, Meikarta,” said Anis in the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) building, Central Jakarta, Monday, February 18.
Anies explained the project was adjacent to the west water flow to Kalimalang, East Jakarta, thus the emergence of a housing complex in the area could increase the potential of pollution in Citarum River.

The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) revealed today the results of evaluation of the Jakarta and West Java administrations’ performance in managing and monitoring Citarum River. The results showed Citarum’ pollution level is above the threshold.
Citarum River presently caters to 80 percent of Jakartans’ need for drinking water, while 13 percent met by the tap water of PDAM Tirta Kerta Raharja, and six percent from Krukut and Pesanggrahan Rivers.
