KPK to Not Stop Meikarta Project

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said it would not stop the Meikarta project despite allegations of bribery in the management of the project.

“We cannot stop an activity when many people are involved in the development process,” said KPK Deputy Chairman Alexander Marwata in the KPK building, South Jakarta, Thursday, November 1.

According to Alex, the problem in the Meikarta case was the bribery related to the project permit, not the physical project.

The anti-graft body named Bekasi Regent Neneng Hassanah Yasin and four officials in the Bekasi Regency Administration as the suspects.

KPK suspected the five people had received a bribe of Rp13 billion to ease the issuance of the Meikarta project permit and that the money was given by Lippo Group Operational Director Billy Sindoro and three of his subordinates.

KPK has also examined Lippo Group boss, James Riady.
