TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chinese New Year is the moment to reminisce the tradition of Chinese people in the old days. One of the memorable things is its typical snacks that commonly sell in traditional markets.
The chairman of Chinese Indonesia Association, Andrew Alister Susanto, presents an old market at Kota Kasablanka shopping mall to expose millennials to Chinese old market and its snacks.
“We want to bring up a sense of nostalgia,” said Andrew in Jakarta, Thursday, January 31.
A small old Chinese market is opened in Kota Kasablanka mall, displaying Chinese typical snacks, such as kwaci (sunflower seed), cakes, sweets, and children’s toys such as ular tangga (snakes and ladders).

The market is designed with old ornaments, including the Year 1967 Calendar.
“I think this is a memory that we can reminisce,” said Azmi Abubakar, an owner of Pustaka Peranakan Tionghoa Museum, adding that the visitors can see old goods that are hard to find in this modern era.
Kota Kasablanka Mall and the Chinese Indonesia Association establish a series of events to celebrate the Chinese New Year themed ‘Festival Pesisir Pulau Jawa’ (Festival of Coastal Java Island).
The event that takes place on January 31 until February 24 presents Barongsai (Chinese lion dance), Wayang Potehi (shadow puppet show), Imlek Fashion Show, Tarian Seribu Tangan (the Thousand Hands dance), and Shanghai Jazz.
