TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Consumer`s Foundation (YLKI) chairman Tulus Abadi urged the government to immediately ratify its draft regulation (RPP) on Trade Transactions via Electronic System as the online shopping industry continued to show an upward trend.

“The trend grows, but the RPP on online shopping is not set yet. What does the government want? So, we demand the President and ministry soon ratify the regulation on electronic shopping, and we require entrepreneurs to have goodwill for consumers,” said Tulus in the YLKI Office, Jakarta, Friday, January 25.

He explained the value of e-commerce transactions during the National Online Shopping, or locally known Harbolnas, skyrocketed to Rp6.8 trillion in 2018 from Rp67.5 billion in 2012.

“The government should not only tout the positive impact of the digital economy, but also pay attention to the weak protection toward consumers, its regulation and the monitoring,” Tulus added.

YLKI recorded in 2018 it received a total of 564 complaints—forty of which, or around seven percent, were of online shopping. These figures have placed online shopping in the fifth position on the list of the most-complained-about industries.
