TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bekasi Bantargebang Police are currently investigating the death of a worker that was gruesomely killed on Thursday, January 17, after being milled to death in a plastic-waste recycling milling machine.

Police’s initial investigation suspects that the unfortunate death of Sariman (35) was accidental, and driven by the worker’s fatigue and being unfamiliar with the machine’s standard operating procedure.

“The victim was sleepy, which caused him to lose his balance and eventually slipped into the milling machine,” said Bantargebang Police Chief Adj. Comm. Siswo on Sunday.

Sariman was found dead by his coworker on Thursday after the worker discovered the victim’s body part and blood flowing out of the milling machine. So far, police have not been able to find a key witness that saw the whole ordeal.

After questioning three witnesses, the Bekasi police cannot 100 percent determine the cause of his death and is currently looking into the recycling site’s permit and announced that the owner can be criminally charged if the workplace is proven to lack the proper permits.
