TEMPO.CO, JakartaRain is expected in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi known as Greater Jakarta today, Jan. 5, according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency's (BMKG) weather forecast. Rain intensity may vary from light to heavy with thunderstorms and strong winds.

“Be aware of the possibility of short-lived rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in parts of South Jakarta and East Jakarta in the afternoon,” the agency said in an early warning on its website on Friday, January 5.

Specifically, West Jakarta and North Jakarta have a chance of light rain in the morning, light rain in the afternoon, and thick clouds in the evening. Central Jakarta, East Jakarta, and South Jakarta may have thick clouds in the morning and evening and light rain in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Thousand Islands or Pulau Seribu will have cloudy skies in the morning and light rain in the afternoon and evening.

Bogor city and regency areas, including Cibinong, Cisarua, and Gadog, are also forecast to experience rain with greater intensity than Jakarta in the afternoon and evening. In the morning, the weather will be partly sunny.

Similar to Bogor, the weather in Depok City will be cloudy in the morning, followed by moderate rain in the afternoon and light rain in the evening.

In Tangerang, the agency predicted thunderstorms in Serpong, South Tangerang in the afternoon after drizzle in the morning. Tangerang City and Tigaraksa will also be showered by light rain. The three regions will see cloudy skies at night.

Bekasi City and Bekasi Regency (Cikarang) may also see partly cloudy skies in the morning and be drenched by moderate to heavy rain between noon and evening.

“Be alert for possible moderate to heavy rain with thunder and strong winds between noon and evening in some areas of Bogor Regency, Bogor City, Depok, Bekasi Regency, and Bekasi City,” the BMKG stressed.
