513 Inmates Granted Christmas Remission in West Java

26 December 2023 10:55 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java's Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights granted Christmas remission for 513 inmates in the region. Around three received special remission or direct release.

"Thus, [the inmates] were released back to their families and society today," said the head of the West Java office of the law and human rights ministry Andika Dwi Prasetya on Monday, Dec. 25.

Andika explained that the remission was given to hard-working and diligent inmates in the correctional programs. Hence, Andika believed the remission was not granted for no reason.

The Christmas remission was given mostly to narcotics convicts with 216 inmates. The remission ranges from fifteen days to two months.

Additionally, over 29 corruption convicts were also granted remission. "No terrorism convicts in West Java receive [Christmas remission], since they are not eligible," Andika explained.

In the Bekasi Class IIA correctional facility, 88 inmates were granted Christmas remission, one of which was immediately released.

The head of Bekasi Class IIA correctional facility M. Susanni said that the majority of inmates who were granted remission are narcotics convicts. "Over 85 percent," Susanni said.
