TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry’s land transportation director general Budi Setiyadi predicts that the ministry’s decree overseeing app-based motorcycle taxi drivers, commonly known as ojek online, will be completed in March or April before it gets put into law by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

“If it’s done quickly, I can foresee it passed as a law in the next three to four months. It depends if there are adjustments in the transition period. We’ll see,” said Budi at Cakung, Jakarta on Sunday.

The ministry’s next step after composing the decrees is to accommodate the voices of the ojek online drivers from 97 alliances and taxi service applicators alike on Tuesday.

“We take the sides of each party,” said Budi. “We don’t want applicators to think that the government imposes a selfish set of rules. This will take time but it’s for the greater good.”

There will be three new decrees set to be publically announced by the Transportation Ministry, which include the issue regarding ojek online tariffs, rules on imposing driver’s suspension, and the issue of drivers’ safety.
