TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PLN president director Sofyan Basir will testify in the Riau 1 power plant project bribery trial with defendant Eni Maulani Saragih. The hearing will be held in Jakarta's Corruption Court today, December 11.
Another witness from PLN is the power company's second director of strategic procurement, Supangkat Iwan Santoso, as confirmed by Eni's lawyer Pahrozi.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) accuses Eni—as the head of the DPR's Energy Commission—of accepting Rp.4.75 billion in bribes from businessman Johannes Budisutrisno Kotjo. The KPK alleged that the bribe was given to smooth out the process of signing the Riau-1 PLTU construction project.
In the prosecutor's indictment, the KPK stated that Eni Saragih facilitated a number of meetings between Kotjo, Sofyan and Supangkat to discuss the project.
In one of the meetings at a restaurant in Plaza Senayan in September 2017, Eni allegedly asked Sofyan to help Kotjo to get the Riau-1 PLTU project. Sofyan then asked Supangkat to oversee the contract process for the Riau-1 PLTU project.
During Kotjo's trial on October 11, Eni testified that Sofyan would get the most money from Kotjo if the Riau-1 PLTU project pushes through. But Sofyan refused and requested that the bribes be divided equally.
During the next hearing with Kotjo as defendant on October 25, Sofyan Basir denied receiving fees from this project.
