TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi believes that digital-based information systems in the transportation sector will reduce the logistics cost. Thus, the ministry particularly Sea Transportation sub-sectors is currently carrying out improvements and development of information technology systems.
The system development includes the Indonesia Port Net (Inaportnet) at 16 ports, DO online, information technology-based port modernization, Implementation of Logistic Community Systems (LCS) or Port Community Services (PCS), Indo E-Navigation and Online Ticketing Development, and Database Development for Law Enforcement.
"I am sure that with this digital system and shared commitment of all relevant stakeholders, the government and the private sector or entrepreneurs, logistics distribution in the future will be much better, so that Indonesia can become the world's maritime axis," Budi said in a written statement received by Tempo on Monday, December 10.
Budi explained that the development of information technology systems has various objectives, among others, to reduce logistics costs, provide integrated logistics data, and cut operational costs. The system can also improve the flow of goods at the port and transparency of service time and tariffs as well as increase navigation efficiency for shipping safety and security and protection of the maritime environment.
The government, he added, was striving to spur competitiveness. Thus, various issues will be discussed in detail including transportation matters, in which the focus is logistics.
"As Jakarta, Tanjung Priok Port should be able to contribute to meaningful changes from the presence of large vessels, and its growth will certainly provide more for that development," Budi concluded.
