Rescuer Compares Lion Air Crash Site to the 2014 AirAsia Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National search and rescue (Basarnas) special group team commander Novry Wulur compared two aircraft crashes; the recent Lion Air flight JT 610 and the AirAsia flight QZ8501 that met its fate in 2014.
Novry said that the crash site of the AirAsia flight was a stark contrast to Lion Air’s crash site he is currently handling. Back in 2014, Novry recalled that his team managed to recover most of the plane’s large pieces of debris and its victims across the Karimata Strait.
He highlighted the debris sizes that were much larger in the AirAsia crash site; “The AirAsia crash saw large size debris left behind, either the plane’s fuselage or victims,” said Novry at Tanjung Priok on Tuesday.

Previously reported, Basarnas Special Group Commander Charles Batlajery stated that the first day of Lion Air’s evacuation only managed to reveal a trail of victim’s small-sized body parts and other small pieces of debris, suggesting the greatness of the impact.
“The largest part of [the victim] we recovered is the stomach area,” said Charles.
The AirAsia flight QZ8501 destined for Singapore at the time carried 162 people. The Lion Air flight JT 610 en route for Pangkal Pinang that tragically met its fate on Monday, October 29, was carrying 188 people in total.
