TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Governor M. Ridwan Kamil is determined to transform the poverty-stricken and rather isolated area of Muara Gembong, Bekasi District, into a village of civilization.
“Please write that I [will create a village of civilization] which is Muara Gembong,” said Ridwan Kamil in Bandung on Tuesday. He asserted that the coastline area needs to be revitalized since it is currently in a worrying state.
“Its economy is down, the access to the region has not been taken care of, and they are always haunted with threats of abrasion along the coastline,” said Ridwan
Kamil.
Ridwan Kamil has urged agencies in the West Java Provincial Government to handle and solve the issue within one year. He also urged the West Java Bina Marga Agency to repair the area’s main access road.
He further appointed the issue of abrasion to the Fisheries and Maritime Agency, issues regarding local mangroves would be handled by the Forestry Agency, while Muara Gembong’s water areas will be turned into a tourist attraction.
“After it is entirely revitalized, journalists can witness its before-and-after transformation,” said Ridwan Kamil who also explained that government’s efforts will be funded by the 2019 regional budget. He also claims that Muara Gembong can be fixed in two years-time if stakeholders coordinate with each other in the program.
