TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - The newly-sworn Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil has spoken about his plan on the infrastructure development of Bekasi City. He attempted to build a water canal from the north sea of Bekasi to the industrial areas in Cikarang, Bekasi.
On his Instagram account, Ridwan Kamil or usually called Kang Emil expected the waterway will serve as a transportation means of goods or containers to redirect the daily traffic of 4,000 containers from Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta via Jakarta-Cikampek toll.
“The congestion in Bekasi-Jakarta toll road can be reduced by the innovation of Kanal Cikarang (Inland Waterway Cikarang Bekasi Laut),” as quoted from Ridwan Kamil’s Instagram post.
The former Bandung Major described his plan as an innovation which was building a wide waterway from the sea to the land. “This will cut 4,000 container trucks entering toll road. Hopefully, this innovation will be as a solution for all,” he added.
According to Ridwan Kamil, the waterway project still needed further studies. Other than as a transportation hub, the study would see whether the canal, which would be built in Cikarang, could be used for public transportation to Jakarta.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Truck Business Association (Aptrindo) urged the government to expedite the construction project of Cilincing-Cibitung toll road and did not agree with the plan of canal project that was estimated to have 40 kilometers in length, said Kyatmaja Lookman, Aptrindo deputy head, on Tuesday, October 2.
