TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A group of pedestrians joined in Pedestrian Coalition asked Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to demolish 30 troubled pedestrian bridges (JPOs).
“We recommend the JPOs to be demolished and to be rebuilt because the bridges that cannot be used anymore,” the coalition's chief Alfred Sitorus said in Jakarta on Thursday, September 6.
One of the 30 troubled JPOs is located in Daan Mogot KM 16, based on the report taken by the coalition from the community.
The Daan Mogot bridge was tilted and almost collapsed after being hit by a truck. The Pedestrian Coalition had asked the Jakarta Administration to inventory 300 other JPOs in Jakarta.
“We also propose for [the government to conduct] periodic feasibility checks [toward the bridges] every three or six months and see whether the JPO need to be demolished or not,” he said.
Besides the Daan Mogot's JPO, other pedestrian bridges that need to be checked include in UPI Station, Gatot Subroto, TB Simatupang, and Kampung Bandan.
“The JPO is not feasible. In fact, some pedestrians complained that they were electrocuted when they touched the bridge rail,” he said.
KPK will also check some JPOs that were reported having problems by the community. “On Friday, we will try to deploy volunteers to check the condition of the JPOs in Jakarta. Whatever the results, we will report it to the regional administration and it will be forwarded to the provincial administration,” he said.
