TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo wants to postpone the inauguration of the elected regional heads in the 2018 Regional Election who were involved in a criminal act. Tjahjo wants the elected officials to complete the legal process until there is a permanent decision.
Tjahjo said he wanted to inaugurate the deputy regional heads first. “Those who are being detained and still have no legal process must wait for the process,” said Tjahjo at the KPK Building, Jakarta, Tuesday, September 4.
Tjahjo said that inaugurating the regional heads that have the legal case is prone to be filed to the State Administrative Court (PTUN). The officials who have the legal case are still considered innocent until the court convicts. If they are not inaugurated before the permanent legal decision is made, Tjahjo is considered to violate the rules.
Tjahjo said that there was one elected governor in the 2018 regional head election who had a legal case. But the official will only be sworn in next year so there is still time to wait for the legal process to be completed.
Tjahjo stated that there were eight elected governors who had no legal case. Their victory was also not sued to the Constitutional Court so they are allowed to take part in the inauguration of the regional head at the Palace today, September 5.
