TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The organizing committee of the 2018 Asian Games (INASGOC) stated that Light Rail Transit (LRT) Jakarta would not be used for the Asian Games. It was stated in conjunction with the trial that was postponed again, Friday, 10 August.
“Most likely it won’t be used,” said INASGOC Director of Media and Public Relations Danny Buldansyah, Saturday 11 August.
Danny argued that the simulation result using the athlete bus from the guesthouse to the match venue was more effective. “Picked up in front of the guesthouse, directly arrive at the venue, without walking,” Danny said.
The Head of the Jabodetabek Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ) Bambang Prihartono called the LRT Jakarta's operation later in August as a bonus. “In the meantime, we will not provide the LRT for the Asian Games,” Bambang said.
PT Jakarta Propertindo or Jakpro estimated that the physical construction progress only reached 75 percent. Half of it was focused on the depot at Jalan Pegangsaan, North Jakarta.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan questioned the initial purpose of the LRT Jakarta. He once asked Jakpro to speed up the work in February so that the facilities during the Asian Games will be used in August.
“That’s what I asked to the authorities, what is the purpose of providing the LRT for the Asian Games?” said Anies Baswedan in the Monas area on Saturday 11 August. He added, “What the athletes go to the mall for?”
