TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Criminal Directorate of South Sulawesi Police has named two suspects of the sinking boat KM Lestari Maju. They are Bira Port officer Kuat Maryanto and the boat captain Agus Susanto.
“We’ve arrested the suspects,” said South Sulawesi Police spokesman Comr. Dicky Sondani at his office, Makassar, on Monday, July 9.
The police charged the suspect with law on negligence that caused casualties besides law on shipping namely Article 303 subs 117 of Law No. 17/2008 on shipping juncto Article 359 of Criminal Code with five years imprisonment for Kuat Maryanto and Article 302 subs Article 1122 of Law No. 17/2008 on shipping juncto Article 359 of Criminal Code with five years imprisonment also for the captain.
South Sulawesi Police took over the case from Selayar Resort Police. “The criminal case is under regional police of South Sulawesi,” said Chief of Selayar Resort Police Adj. Sr. Comr. Syamsu Ridwan.
Selayar Police had investigated several crews including three deck officers named Goloyono, Rudiamsah, and Muh Irfan Nashuka, two machinists Said Imam Mada Ali and Gabriel D Jogas, as well as head of machine room Gunawan.
As of Monday, July 9, the search on the victims of the capsized boat was halted. A one-year-old baby, Aditya, has not been founded yet. The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) spokesperson Hamsidar stated that based on the standard operations procedure (SOP), the search has been conducted for seven days. Hence the search was halted yesterday at 15:00 local times as the incident occurred on last Tuesday, July 3.
However, Hamsidar mentioned, the monitoring was still underway for three days done by the Search and Rescue (SAR) team of Selayar. “The SAR operation can be re-opened should there sign of victims.” Thus far, as many as 167 people were survived and 36 others died due to the incident of the capsized boat of KM Lestari Maju.
