TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo viewed that the simultaneous regional head election (Pilkada) on Wednesday had run smoothly.
“Generally there were no problems, it went smoothly and safely,” said Tjahjo in Jakarta today, June 29.
Tjahjo said that the government will oversee the level of voter’s participation in yesterday’s simultaneous election and will wait for further reports on money politics to enter the government’s desk if there any.
“The election monitoring board will see if any campaigns spread hate,” he explained. Tjahjo suggested that the complete report of the 2018 Pilkada will be used by the government to face the coming 2019 Presidential Election.
Other elements in the Pilkada that Minister Tjahjo saw positively was that it went democratically and the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), police, and State Civil Apparatus were able to maintain neutrality in the election.
However, Minister Tjahjo viewed that the regional election felt more like a legislative and presidential election.
The 2018 regional election (Pilkada) was held in 171 regions in 34 provinces, where 17 of them chose for a governor, 39 regions voted for a mayor, while the rest of 115 districts voted for a regent.
