TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Democratic Party executive Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) urged millenials to be more politically aware and use their right to vote to avoid the option of not voting in the upcoming election. Agus reminded that not voting may enable incompetent and incapable leaders lead the nation.
“We must get ourselves involved. Practice your political rights if you want to have produce ideas in the field,” said Agus in a public dialogue at Malang, East Java on Wednesday, June 20.
However, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono predicts that Indonesia will have a set of leaders that will truly side with the people and represent the hopes of the masses.
“This is the significance of democracy that we built since the national reform,” said Agus.
Furthermore, Agus felt that it is crucial for millenials to be more politically aware and politically involved since they can prevent authoritative figures from abusing their power and intimidate its people.
He then reminded members of the audience about the national awakening in 1908 which was made possible by the youths at the time from numerous origins, ethnic groups, and religion who pledged their devotion for Indonesia.
“The country’s independence was also mobilized by our youths,” AHY reminded.
