TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Jakarta Police formed a special task force to monitor the empty houses on Eid Day, that will be left by its occupants, to prevent from the theft action.

South Jakarta Police spokesman Imam Santoso, said the Empty House Task Force was formed since 2018 Ketupat Operation (Obedient Operation), on 6 June.

“The Task Force was formed because of seeing the vulnerability of empty houses that became the target of crime when its residents leave for the homecoming,” said Imam when contacted on Tuesday, June 12.

According to him, this task force consists of Police, National Army or TNI, and Public Order Agency. South Jakarta Police have deployed a thousand personnel in Ketupat Operation.

According to Imam, the elite houses that will be left during the homecoming will be the main concern for the Empty House Task Force to be supervised. The elite houses will become the target of crime like a robbery because it has many valuables.

"The Task Force will not be guarding in one location only, but also mobile (moving) while patrolling," he said.

So far, said Imam, there has been no report of theft or empty house robberies. Before leaving for the homecoming, the police have urged the homecomers to coordinate with the head of community unit and security officers. In addition, the houses must be ascertained in the locked state entirely.

“We are also appealed for the houses to be installed with CCTV (surveillance camera),” he said.
