Malaysia Objects Indonesia Plan to Halt Sending Domestic Workers

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Malaysian government expressed objection on Indonesian government’s plan to stop sending domestic workers (PRT) to Malaysia since abuse cases to domestic workers are not of high frequency.
Malaysia Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi delivered his concerns as a response to Indonesian government’s plan.
Based on statistics, he explained, Malaysia has the lowest number of cases of abuse against Indonesian domestic workers compared to several other countries.
Ahmad Zahid stated that he plans to meet Indonesia’s Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri to discuss safety issues for Indonesian workers and domestic workers.
"We already have Standard Operational Procedure(SOP) for work safety, but we will further review agreements between employers and workers if such regulations are considered less strict," he said.
