TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After being named a suspect in the electronic ID cards (e-KTP) graft case and detained by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Setya Novanto’s post as the Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) is being challenged. Most of the House factions have urged the Golkar Party chairman to resign.

The DPR Honorary Council (MKD) has responded by scheduling a meeting with faction leaders. The meeting was canceled as some factions were absent. But some House members have voiced their concerns over the issue.

Listed below are some of the comments:

- NasDem Party secretary-general Johnny Plate:

“For the good of the DPR, Setya better resign and be focused on resolving his personal problem.”

- Gerindra Party deputy chairman Desmon Junaidi Mahesa:

“There are two options: Setya to voluntarily resign or hold on but relegate DPR; its image will be tarnished.”

- The National Awakening Party (PKB) deputy secretary-general Maman Imanulhaq:

“The decision whether to resign is on Setya and Golkar. But I suggest Setya resign.”

- The National Mandate Party secretary Yandri Susanto:

“Setya must be replaced.”

- Member of the Prosperous Justice Party faction, Nasir Djamil:

“Setya’s status is not yet settled. We must be patient.”

- The United Development Party secretary-general Arsul Sani:

“We need clarification from Golkar faction. If proven guilty, he must resign.”

- Hanura Party secretary-general Syarifuddin Sudding:

“[Setya] better resign and resolve his personal problem. Listen to people’s concerns that demand his resignation.”

- Democrat Party deputy chairman Roy Suryo:

“Listen to the people. Democrat will follow the people.”

- PDIP faction deputy speaker Hendrawan Supratikno:

“The issue has become a concern to the people. We will leave it to Golkar Party.”
