TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Golkar Party Central Executive Board (DPP) plenary meeting will decide on the fate of chairman Setya Novanto—a suspect in the electronic ID card graft case—after his pretrial motion is complete. The same meeting also decided to name secretary-general Idrus Marham an acting chairman.
The decisions were reached after the DPP held a plenary meeting yesterday.
Golkar executive officer Nurdin Halid explained that Idrus Marham’s term will end if Setya wins his pretrial motion.
Conversely, if Setya loses the pretrial suit, acting chairman and executive officer will hold a plenary to decide on the leadership post. “To demand the resignation of Setya Novanto as Golkar chairman,” he said.
If Setya loses the pretrial suit and he refuses to resign, a plenary meeting will agree to schedule an extraordinary meeting to find new Golkar chairman.
Setya’s fate was the main topic in yesterday’s plenary meeting. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained and named him a suspect in the alleged e-ID corruption case.
Setya Novanto has challenged the KPK’s decision to name him a suspect by filing a pretrial motion to South Jakarta District Court.
The plenary also discussed Novanto’s position as the Speaker of the House of Representatives. “…Setya Novanto’s post as the DPR Speaker will be decided after the pretrial motion is complete,” he said.
