TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan’s decision to scrap local capital participation (PMD) for five regional government-owned enterprises (BUMD) has been criticized by the Jakarta Regional Representatives Council (DPRD).
Nasdem Party politician Hasan Basri Umar said that Anies Baswedan should refrain from making arbitrary decisions that could greatly affect the Jakartans. “We believe that it is imperative to be prudent,” he said at Jakarta DPRD building on November 16.
The Governor has canceled capital participation for five BUMDs: PT Jaktour, PD Dharma Jaya, PT Asuransi Bangun Akrida, PT Food Station Tipinang Jaya dan PD Pembangunan Sarana Jaya. The news was conveyed by Regional Secretary Saefullah after consulting with Anies. He said that BUMDs are expected to become more professional and no longer rely on capital participation amid a Rp2.5 budget deficit.

Nasdem faction, Hasan Basri went on, believes that BUMDs may become self-sufficient, particularly those engaged in trades of non-basic necessities. However, the decision ought to be made after a comprehensive study.
The scrapping of capital participation in BUMDs that hold key roles in people’s prosperity, such as PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya dan PD Dharma Jaya should remain 100 under local government.
“Since local government’s control can maintain price stability and supplies of staple foods,” Hasan said, adding that BUMDs must not be privatized.
DPRD member from Hanura faction, Ruslan Amsyari, agreed that BUMDs that are tasked with maintaining price stability should get subsidies to boost their performance.
