TEMPO.CO, Cilegon - The surge of homecoming traveler during the 2017 mudik season has peaked at the Port of Merak in Banten. The sudden spike of passengers queuing to board on ferry boats is visible.
The pedestrians, motorcyclists, and four-wheeled vehicles have congested the port’s parking lot at the Merak Integrated Terminal (TTM), waiting to cross to Sumatra Island.

Based on today’s observation, Friday, June 23, thousands of home-comers arriving from the port of Bakaheuni in Lampung continue to flow-in. This has caused the access route towards the port of Merak experience a standstill at dawn. The line of mudik traveler constantly increased and caused a three-kilometer queue from Merak Port.

Based on data from ASDP Merak, the company has provided service for 10,925 pedestrians, 4,841 motorcyclists, and 7,942 four wheeled vehicles to cross the island today.
ASDP Indonesia Ferry Spokesman, Mario Sardadi Oetomo, revealed that his office had predicted the peak flow to occur on Thursday evening, June 22, based on previous year’s statistics.
Most mudik travelers chose to leave two days before Eid after the government set today as a public holiday.
