TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bandung Administration holds mass iftar, or fast-breaking, event across 500 meters of Asia - Afrika Street on Saturday, June 17. The street will be temporarily closed since it will turn into a sit-on-the-floor area packed with 10,000 participants. Singers Afgan and Cakra Khan will also participate in addition to drums beating in unison (rampak bedug).
“The event will kick off from 3.30 to 6.30,” Bandung Culture and Tourism Agency head Kenny Dewi Kaniasari said.
Kenny explained that the event involves state officials representing agency or institution, district staff, 90 communities and the local residents. Foods and beverages for the mass fast breaking, Kenny added, are brought by participants and from other parties.
The culinary donation will be given to the poor and local residents who show up spontaneously. She estimates that the number of participants will be more than 10,000 people.
“No charges apply from the government,” Kenny said. She further said that the purpose of the event is to make people in Bandung more united.
