TEMPO.CO, Bandung - King Carl XVI Gustav and Queen Silvia of Sweeden visited Bandung, West Java, to meet local soccer club supporter group Viking Persib Klub.
“The meeting was requested by Queen Silvia, because [the name of] Viking resembles the ancestor of Swedish people. In Indonesia, the name is used by a community consisting of thousands of members,” Bandung administration spokesperson Yayan A. Brilyana said on Wednesday, May 24, 2017.
Before the arrival of King Carl XVI Gustav in Bandung, the Bandung administration raised the Swedish Flag at the City Hall. Based on Tempo’s observation at around 11 am, the traffic at Jalan Dalem Kaum was normal. Some members of the Presidential Security Detail stood guard at the City Hall’s main gate.
At the south square across the city hall, there were several residents sitting on benches. King Carl and Queen Silvia were scheduled to arrive in Bandung at 12 pm.
After meeting with Bandung mayor Ridwan Kamil, King Carl was scheduled to take a walk to the Merdeka Building at Jalan Asia Afrika located about 500 meters from the city hall. King Carl was to visit the historical building where the Asia-Africa Summit is held.
