TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassy in London confirmed that at least three Indonesian citizens made it out alive following a suspected terrorist attack that occurred last night in Manchester during a pop concert by United States star Ariana Grande. According to several reports, the attack killed 19 and injured 50 others.
Embassy’s coordinator of protocol and consular functions Gulfan Afero revealed that the information was obtained from the Indonesian Students Association in Greater Manchester.
“We received information that three Indonesian who were at the scene have safely returned to their residences,” Gulfan said via a text message today.
To this date, the Indonesian Embassy remains in touch with the students association and other organizations in relation to the conditions of the three Indonesians and others who are currently in the Greater Manchester area.
“There is no report yet saying whether Indonesians have been the victims of the terror attack. The local police and the crisis center have not yet released the victims’ citizenships,” Gulfan explained.
The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi echoed Gulfan’s statement, as saying that “Up until 09:00 a.m. West Indonesia Time, we have yet not yet received any information regarding Indonesians being victims of the Manchester attack.”
Retno said that the Ministry will continue to update the situation regarding the attack. The Ministry, Retno added, has planned to be in communications with Indonesian students who are currently in the United Kingdom and will also prepare a hotline.
“Hopefully this evening or tomorrow morning U.K. times, we will be able to receive updates from the Indonesian Embassy,” Retno said.
