TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, said that there are three business sectors that can be explored by young entrepreneurs, including tourism.

Jokowi asserted that Indonesia has a strong tourism business. Jokowi said that currently, the government is developing 10 new tourist destinations and young entrepreneurs can help by developing its supporting facilities, such as opening restaurants or gift shop.

In addition to tourism, Jokowi added that the e-commerce sector is one of the sectors that should be explored by young entrepreneurs. The president predicted that in the future, Indonesia will gain a large demographic advantage, which will generate major benefits for entrepreneurs who have successfully established their e-commerce business.

Based on the government's prediction, Indonesia's population will reach 309 million people in 2045, with an economic growth rate of five to six percent, and a gross domestic product reaching up to USD 9.1 trillion. The government also predicted that income per capita will reach USD 29,000.

"Lifestyle-related businesses will flourish in our country. Retailers, media, culinary, will develop rapidly. Online marketing is the thing for young people, not for [people of my age]," President Jokowi said during his opening remarks at the 16th Young Entrepreneurs Association national work meeting on Monday, March 27, 2017.

The President also highlighted major business opportunities for young entrepreneurs in business process outsourcing (BPO) sector. Jokowi said that the Philippines had managed to generate an annual revenue of USD 25 billion from the BPO sector.

"Maybe not do what the Philippines did, which is telemarketing. We can develop graphic design, animation, software development. BPO in Indonesia holds many promises," Jokowi said.

President Jokowi also underlined the importance of infrastructure development, processing industry and services industry. The President hoped that better infrastructure can result in lower logistics and transportation cost that will allow domestic products to compete with foreign products.
