TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Ministry Budi Karya Sumadi said that revised Transportation Minister’s Regulation No. 32/2016 on ride-hailing services will be effective in three months’ time.
“It will still be effective on April 1, 2017, but we will tolerate [any violation] for around three months of the soon to be applicable [revised] points,” Budi Karya Sumadi said in his press statement on Thursday, March 23, 2017.
Budi Karya noted that during the transitional period both police and Transportation Office will not take legal actions against any violation of the regulation, adding that such actions will be conducted afterward.
Budi Karya said that the Transportation Minister will suspend the driver or block the ride-hailing service provider. “We are looking for a way to suspend [drivers], should they fail to meet the requirements.”
According to Transportation Minister, the revised regulation will protect all parties, including drivers and the wider public. He pointed to the requirements on driver quota. “It will protect drivers; so will the ceiling and floor prices.”
Ride-hailing companies have earlier requested for a 9-month delay before the implementation of the regulation.
