TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The legal team representing inactive Jakarta governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama reported Muchsin Alatas, chairman of the Jakarta Branch of Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) who stood as a witness in the religious blasphemy case trial. Ahok’s lawyer, Wayan Sudirta, along with his colleagues, went to Jakarta Police to file the report on Monday evening, January 23, 2017.
“We’ve already reported Muchsin for allegedly violating article 242 regarding perjury,” Wayan said after filing the report in Jakarta on Tuesday, January 23, 2017.
Wayan argued Muchsin could not prove that he represented 39 organizations to report Ahok. Muchsin also claimed that he made the report against Ahok on October 3, 2016. “Even though the report was clearly [filed] on October 7, 2016,” Wayan explained.
Another Muchsin's testimony that is considered false, according to Wayan, is that he claimed to have received thousands of text messages from Thousand Islands residents complaning about Ahok's blasphemy. Muchsin claimed that he had already deleted the messages from his phone, which was why he could not present it.
Another member of Ahok’s legal team, Rolas Sitinjak, claimed to have provided some evidence attached to the report they filed. One of them is the video footage of the trial held on January 3, 2017, court transcripts, news articles, and witnesses. Muchsin is the second person who has been reported by Ahok’s legal team after Novel Bamukmin.
