TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Banda Aceh administration and Singapore have plan to include Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport into the Singapore Changi Airport Group. This collaboration in the transportation sector will allow direct flights from Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport to Singapore, and vice-versa.
“It would be similar to [the flight] to Penang and Kuala Lumpur, no need to transit at Kuala Namu to travel to Singapore,” says Singaporean consular officer Mark Law at the Banda Aceh City Hall on Monday, January 23, 2017.
In addition to developing the transportation sector, both sides have agreed to strengthen ties in other sectors, such as the environment sector and people exchange related to the increased capacity of government manpower at the tourism sector and health services.
Mark Law’s visit to Aceh marks the 50 year diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Singapore. “Coinciding with this valuable moment, we would like to open investment opportunities step-by-step, and we need supports such as good investment climate for investors.”
Singapore, Mark revealed, wants to share their experience and programs in urban development, environment, and transportation sectors. Similar programs are currently being adopted by other neighboring countries such as Vietnam and Cambodia.
“Aceh is special and potential to us,” Mark said. “From a number of regions in Sumatera, Aceh, especially Banda Aceh, is one of the cities we chose to build a sustainable partnership with.”
