TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Police will summon Rizieq Shihab, leader of the Islam Defenders Front (FPI) for questioning about Shihab's claim that the logo of the new rupiah banknotes issued by Bank Indonesia (BI) resembles a symbol of the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI).
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comm. Prabowo Argo Yuwono said on Thursday that Rizieq will be summoned as a witness next Monday.
Argo hopes Rizieq will come to the police headquarters without bringing supporters. "That's what we expect. Preferably he comes with a lawyer or a legal counsel," he said.
Sometime ago, public organizations Jaringan Intelektual Muda Anti Fitnah (JIMAF) and Solidaritas Merah Putih reported Rizieq to the Jakarta Police for his statement that Bank Indonesia purposefully designed the new banknotes with the hammer-and-sickle logo, and said that President Joko Widodo is a communist for allowing the printing of the new banknotes.
Rizieq is being charged with Article 28 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 45 A paragraph 2 of Law no.19/2016 on Electronic Information and Transaction.
