TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Salman Mosque Foundation (YPM) of Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) regrets the disbandment of the Christian worship dubbed Kebaktian Kebangunan Rohani (KKR) at the Sasana Budaya Ganesha (Sabuga), Bandung on Tuesday, December 6, 2016.
“We regret the means of blocking the freedom to worship and urged all parties to respect the said freedom,” said the Salman YPM Chairman of ITB Syarif Hidayat in a press conference on Thursday, December 8, 2016.
Syarif said that the right to worship and practice of any religious teaching in Indonesia is guaranteed under the 1945 Constitution (UUD). The state officials authorize and take responsibility for the rules in implementing a service in public space, he added. “Religious people is urged to respect the authority.”
KKR’s activity at Sabuga was opposed by a number of Islamic organizations in Bandung. According to Reny, there were around 75 people claiming to be from the Islamic organizations that came to the worship location on December 6, 2016, at 1 pm Western Indonesian Time. They even yelled an oration in front of the venue.
