TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of Information Data Center and Public Relation of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPT) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said that the BNPT has applied a state of emergency in Aceh following the recent earthquake. The state of emergency will be in place until December 20, 2016.
"[The state of emergency] is applied because the number of victims and damages continue to increase," Sutopo said on Wednesday, December 7, 2016.
Sutopo added that up until 5:00 PM Wednesday afternoon, December 7, 2016, rescuers have evacuated 94 bodies, and 128 people suffering from severe injuries.
"The Aceh Governor has declared a 14-days state of emergency, form December 7, until December 20," Sutopo said.
The state of emergency applies for three regencies, including Pidie Jaya, Pidie, and Bireuen, and is intended to allow better emergency services and access.
A quick assessment revealed that the disaster damaged 162 houses, 14 mosques, one school, and one health facility.
