TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - During his active duty as the Jakarta Governor, Jakarta Governor Candidate Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama had introduced a new regulation for officials in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th echelon to report their wealth by submitting State Official's Wealth Report (LHKPN) to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Ahok revealed that officials in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th echelon rarely report their wealth, causing it to be untraceable. Meanwhile, Ahok suspected that many high-ranking officials are often involved in corruption because they have an unrealistic amount of wealth.

"[That way] I know for sure how wealthy the village head is. How wealthy the sub-district head is. Previously, officials in the 4th echelon were not required to report their wealth. Whereas, ‘thievery’ mostly happens in the 4th and 3rd echelon," Ahok said on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 in Rumah Lembang, his campaign headquarter.

In order to eradicate corruption, Ahok had established a Memorandum of Understanding with a number of institutions such as the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK), The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), and the Finance and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) to examine state official's wealth.
