TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - Secretary of the United Muslim Movement (Gerakan Umat Islam Bersatu/GUIB) East Java chapter Muhammad Yunus said that some people from the region had departed for Jakarta to join the December 2 rally set to demand detention of Jakarta governor candidate Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok.
“Some have gone to Jakarta, I myself am on my way to Jakarta,” Yunus told Tempo on Tuesday, November 29, 2016.
According to him, some departed for Jakarta using their own vehicles. Some had gone by plane, bus or train. “A Muslim organization arranged it, some departed by themselves,” he said.
Muslims have been going to Jakarta from several departure points in Surabaya and East Java. “The Muslim organization made the decision on the point of departure,” he noted.
He did not reveal the number of East Javan Muslims to join Friday’s rally because the GUIB had yet to count them.
They would only count the number of protesters when December 2 draws near. “We predict that over 10,000 people will depart for Jakarta from East Java,” he said.
