TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla offered condolences for the death of the former leader of Cuba, Fidel Castro. The Cuban Revolution figure died in age of 90 on Friday night, November 25, 2016, local time, or on Saturday in Indonesia.

"All of us and the government offer condolences for the passing of Fidel Castro," said Kalla, at the Pondok Gede Hajj Dormitory, Saturday.

Kalla said that Castro was a friend to Indonesia in President Soekarno`s time. Soekarno and Castro had a good relationship. Castro also supported the Non-Block Movement.

Kalla also said that Castro was a great fighter for his country. "Eventhough there were also many problems, he still fought for his region," he said.

Castro died due to illness that has long suffered. During his lifetime, Castro faced many assasination attempts but always managed to avoid it. Castro led Cuba for more than half of century. In 2008, he handed down his power to his brother, Raul Castro.
