TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said that Rp3,880.67 trillion in assets have been reported in the tax amnesty program. However, assets reported in the second period of the program, which started on October 1, have only reached Rp81.27 trillion.

“As of October 31, some 430,362 people have joined the tax amnesty. The retribution fees have reached Rp94.1 trillion,” Sri Mulyani said Wednesday in tax amnesty dissemination to notaries, lawyers and land conveyancing officers (PPAT) at Borobudur Hotel in Central Jakarta.

The total Rp3,880.67 trillion in assets reported comprise of Rp2,755 trillion domestic assets declared, Rp982.98 trillion offshore assets declared and Rp142.68 trillion assets repatriated, she said.

Sri Mulyani urged notaries, lawyers and land conveyancing officers to immediately join the tax amnesty program. Sri Mulyani considered that the second period of the program has seen a rather low return on retribution fees. “We expect you, at least those present in this room, to join the tax amnesty. If not in this period, [you can join it later] in January to March period,” she noted.

Should tax payers fail to join the tax amnesty and the Tax DG later found out that they stashed unreported assets, the assets would be considered as additional income subject to regular tax rate. “It will not be 2-3 percent, but 25 percent and a 2 percent interest rate per month.”

Sri Mulyani reiterated that notaries, lawyers and land conveyancing officers should join the second period of tax amnesty program, considering its low retribution fee rate. “Or we shall meet again in three years’ time and charge you with 2 percent interest rate per month. Is it a threat? It is,” she said with a smile.
