TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ambon and Lease Islands Police personnel have arrested Abraham Tupanwae, 19, Tuesday in Galala, Ambon, for alleged blasphemy. Suspect had previously been reported to police by Maluku Islamic Students Association (HMI Badko Mal-Malut).
Earlier on Monday, Abraham posted a status on Facebook account under the name Bravo Marques containing blasphemous remarks which sparked a furor in Ambon.
Ambon and Lease Islands Polcie chief Harold Huwae police arrested Abraham after they received the report and later handed him over to Maluku Criminal Investigation Unit for questioning.
Badko HMI Mal-Malut chairman Bansa Hadi Sela has urged police to investigate into the case in accordance with the applicable law to prevent public disorder.
Bansa also said that there are lessons to be learned in blasphemy content on social media, adding that people should be more clever in using social media.
