TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian said that there is a hidden agenda in the rally that will be held in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) building on November 25, 2016. According to Tito, certain groups of people are planning to intervene and "take control" of the DPR.
"The act and intention clearly violate the law. If it is aimed at overthrowing the government, that is clearly treason," Tito said at the police headquarters in Jakarta on Monday, November 21, 2016.
Tito said there are a number of meetings between figures of community groups' to mobilize the masses and topple Joko Widodo's administrations. In those meetings, Tito said, protesters were told to carry bamboo spears to fight police officers and security personnel.
"We will act decisively if there is anything that may lead to that hidden agenda," he said. "If anyone resists officers with a sharpened bamboo, we will take legal actions."
As reported previously, a rally is expected to be staged on November 25, to demand the Police to detain Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama who was recently named as a suspect of committing blasphemy against Islam.
