TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The East Java High Attorney Office named former State-Owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan as a suspect in the alleged corruption related to the selling of assets belonging to PT Panca Wira Usaha (PWU), which is a regional-owned company.
Dahlan was alleged for violating Articles 2 and 3 of the of Law No. 31/1999 on Corruption as amended through the issuance of Law No. 20/2001 in conjunction with Article 55 (1) point (1). Dahlan was immediately after being named as a suspect on Thursday, October 27, 2016.
"[Dahlan] has been named as a suspect today [October 27, 2016] and has been arrested in relation to the selling of PT PWU assets in Kediri and Tulungagung," said Edy Birton, intelligence assistant of the East Java High Attorney Office on Thursday, October 27, 2016.
Edy explained that Dahlan Iskan was the President Director of PT PWU for the 200-2010 period, and was named as a suspect because Dahlan was aware of and signed the decision to sell 33 PT PWU's assets. "[Dahlan's] role was as the President Director [of PT PWU]," Edy said while adding that the number of state losses is currently being calculated by the Finance and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP).
Edy explained that Dahlan needs to be detained so that he may not destroy any evidence related to the case, influence any witnesses, and to speed up the case's investigation process. Edy also underlined that the arrest was made based on legal considerations and has no relation to political interests.
In response to the development of the case, Dahlan said that he believed that he is not guilty. "I was not surprised with the naming as a suspect, and the arrest, because as all of you know, I am currently being hunted by people with powers," Dahlan said.
