TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama emphasized that he had never intended to insult the Holy Quran related to his statement on Al-Maidah. “There was never any intention to insult the Holy Quran or Islam,” Ahok said Friday, October 14, 2016.

Ahok said that he had already released an apology to the Muslim community in Indonesia in relation to his statement while visiting the Seribu Islands.

The Governor said he is not interested in apologizing to the members of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) that has conducted a demonstration at the Jakarta City Hall.

“Why would I issue another apology?,” Ahok said. “The first one was a clear apology, this problem is more because (FPI) not accepting the apology and conduct a demonstration”

Ahok said that his statement in the video is already clear, there is no intention to insult the Holy Quran. He would not comment much on FPI’s attempt to imprison him.

FPI intends to arrest and drag Ahok to jail. The FPI mob considers him to have insulted a religion.

Following the demonstration, Ahok did not ask for the police to secure the City Hall from the demonstrators. He said that police mobilized their personnel without being asked to.
