Govt to Take Non-judicial Ways to Settle Human Right Violations

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto said that gross human rights violations in the past, particularly the G30S/PKI case will be settled through non-judicial ways.
Wiranto said the G30S/PKI incident is in the category of "the principles clear and present danger", which means that the country can be declared in a state of real danger.
"So the actions related to national security is a rescue action," he said in Lubang Buaya, East Jakarta,Saturday (1/10).
According to Wiranto, that conclusion is based on a study conducted by a joint team consisting of the Attorney General, National Human Rights Commission, military/police, legal experts, as well as aspirations of the people.
From the study of the criminal law, he said, the emergency action is undertaken at that time cannot be judged by the characters of the present law.
Wiranto added that the based on the investigation case done by investigators at the National Commission of Human Rights (Komnas HAM) and the Attorney General's Office investigators, the evidence found is not convincing; thus, the settlement of past human right violations is done in non-judicial ways.
