TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism Ministry is holding Wonderful Indonesia Culinary & Shopping Festival 2016 to achieve the target of 20 million foreign tourist arrivals by 2019. The event is held in 85 shopping malls spread across 16 cities in 12 provinces, in cooperation with the Indonesian Shopping Centers Association (APPBI).
Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said that culinary and shopping make up 30 percent of spending made by tourists and 32 percent of creative economy value in Indonesia, or roughly Rp200 trillion.
“It will be a good promotional event for regions and is expected to attract both domestic and foreign tourists,” Arief said Tuesday in the opening of Wonderful Indonesia Culinary & Shopping Festival (WICSF) 2016, as quoted by Bisnis.com.
APPBI chairman Stefanus Ridwan said the WICSF 2016 is expected to boost visits to shopping centers up to 20 percent and increase transactions up to 15 percent. “Not only tasteful dishes, the WICSF also features local product expo and local handicrafts, cooking demonstration and shopping tourism with attractive discounts,” he said.
